Upper Tail Analysis of Bucket Sort and Random Tries

چکیده
Bucket Sort is known to run in expected linear time when the input keys are distributed independently and uniformly at random interval [0, 1). The analysis holds even a quadratic algorithm used sort each bucket. We show how obtain guarantees on running of that hold with very high probability. Specifically, we investigate asymptotic behavior exponent upper tail probability Sort. consider large additive deviations from expectation, form cn for enough (constant) c, where n number sorted.

Comparison of Bucket Sort and RADIX Sort
Bucket sort and RADIX sort are two well-known integer sorting algorithms. This paper measures empirically what is the time usage and memory consumption for different kinds of input sequences. The algorithms are compared both from a theoretical standpoint but also on how well they do in six different use cases using randomized sequences of numbers. The measurements provide data on how good they ...
متن کاملAnalysis of random LC tries
LC tries were introduced by Andersson and Nilsson in 1993. They are compacted versions of tries or patricia tries in which, from the top down, maximal height complete subtrees are level compressed. Andersson and Nilsson (1993) showed that for i.i.d. uniformly distributed input strings, the expected depth of the LC patricia trie is (log n). In this paper, we reene and extend this result. We anal...
متن کاملSieving Using Bucket Sort
This paper proposes a new sieving algorithm that employs a bucket sort as a part of a factoring algorithm such as the number field sieve. The sieving step requires an enormous number of memory updates; however, these updates usually cause cache hit misses. The proposed algorithm dramatically reduces the number of cache hit misses when the size of the sieving region is roughly less than the squa...
متن کاملLaws of Large Numbers and Tail Inequalities for Random Tries and Patricia Trees
We consider random tries and random patricia trees constructed from n independent strings of symbols drawn from any distribution on any discrete space. If Hn is the height of this tree, we show that Hn/E{Hn} tends to one in probability. Additional tail inequalities are given for the height, depth, size, and profile of these trees and ordinary tries that apply without any conditions on the strin...
متن کاملStudy of Random Biased d-ary Tries Model
Tries are the most popular data structure on strings. We can construct d-ary tries by using strings over an alphabet leading to d-ary tries. Throughout the paper we assume that strings stored in trie are generated by an appropriate memory less source. In this paper, with a special combinatorial approach we extend their analysis for average profiles to d-ary tries. We use this combinatorial appr...
